Cooper Young Festival 2005 Sponsorship Descriptions
Cooper Young Festival -Eighteenth Anniversary - September 17, 2005

The Cooper Young Festival, hosted by the Cooper Young Business Association (CYBA), is Memphis’ most unique outdoor celebration. Held in Memphis’ largest historic district, the Cooper Young Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 17th, 2005. In It’s eighteenth year, this event has grown to be one of Memphis’ most anticipated and well attended events. This year over 50,000 guests will enjoy an appealing mix of art, music and crafts presented by over 300 artisans from around the country. The Festival is a true celebration of the arts, people, culture and Memphis heritage.
The mission of the CYBA, which was founded in 1988, is to reclaim the buildings, streetscape and businesses of the District to promote a better business climate as well as promoting the district as a desirable place to live, work and patronize. It does this by maintaining a living, creative and safe environment.
Since the CYBA began sponsoring the Festival in the Fall of 1988, this event has grown to major proportions. The money that is raised, through the Festival, is distributed back into our Historic District through the Cooper Young Development Corporation and the Cooper Young Community Association. Both of these 501c3 organizations take an active part in the revitalization of our community, through their continued efforts to refurbish abandoned and low income housing, maintaining a safe residential and commercial environment and their promotion of public improvements.

In addition to the Festival itself, there are several pre-Festival events that help to promote the arts in our community. The CYBA hosts a Young Artist contest in an effort to promote the love of art in school age children. Prizes in the form of scholarship bonds are awarded at this event. Another pre-Festival event is the Cooper Young Artist Invitational, an evening of music and art presented exclusively by local artists. This exhibit remains open throughout the weekend of Festival and is a venue for those artists not represented by galleries to get their work out there and visible to the public.

And finally, the Friday evening prior to Festival, the Cooper Young Community Association hosts the Festival Friday 4-Miler. This event is attended by approximately 1000 runners, their friends, family and community members. Sponsorship opportunities are available for all of these events.

With over $80,000 in media exposure and an opportunity to be seen and heard by over 2,000,000+ people for the three weeks prior to the festival, I encourage you to partner with us. We would be pleased to have you join us at this year’s Festival. You will find that there is no other area of the city that blends a unique mix of art, music, crafts and games - from more than 300 vendors in a celebration of people, culture and Memphis heritage.
